VISAKHAPATNAM, JUNE 6. The National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development, in association with the zonal office of the State Bank of India, conducted an awareness programme on Vikas Volunteer Vahini Clubs on Sunday. In his inaugural address, the SBI Deputy General Manager, S. K. Chaudhuri, said bank employees must commit themselves to community development and serve the society. As bank managers, their role did not stop with the business of the bank but extended to spreading awareness among villages about all facets of the economy, he said. SBI's Assistant General Managers, V. Viswanadha Rao and P. V. V. S. Swamy, advised SBI officers to form Vikas Volunteer Vahini Clubs immediately at their branches. The SBI Lead District Manager, Sharma, stressed the need for increasing rural credit three or four fold for improving economic conditions in rural areas. He told the participants to be "smooth and friendly" while recovering loans. NABARD's Assistant General Manager (Hyderabad), Sambasiva Reddy, narrated his experiences in forming the clubs and spoke of the way they were expected to function.
