BANGALORE, JUNE 6. Gold jewellery worth Rs. 1 lakh and Rs. 6,000 in cash was stolen from a woman passenger on .Hampi Express, going from Bangalore to Bellary, at the City Railway Station on Sunday night, the police said. The passenger, Sumitra Mallikarjun, was travelling with her five-year-old child when her purse kept near the window, was stolen. The crime was committed when Ms. Mallikarjun was attending to her child. The police said the thief had climbed up a service water pipe along the railway track in the station and stole the purse as the train began to pull out of the station, just before 11 p.m. A few of her fellow passengers of Ms. Mallikarjun, who noticed the purse being stolen, pulled the emergency chain in the coach, but to no avail. The culprit had escaped. The City Railway Station police have registered a case.
