PUDUKOTTAI, JUNE 7. The district authorities have planned to repair school toilets in rural areas under the Sampoorna Gramin Rozgar Yojana. They have identified 250 schools, most of them are either panchayat union primary or middle schools, where toilets are either not good or are defunct. The village panchayats would be involved in the work, official sources told The Hindu today. The sanction would be accorded after receipt of resolutions, passed during the gram sabha meetings held on June 6. The schools are located in 13 panchayat unions. The nature of works includes replacement or repair of doors, provision of water supply and proper flooring. The District Rural Development Agency would monitor the work. Under the Total Rural Sanitation Programme (TRSP), toilets were constructed in 210 primary and middle schools during 2002-03 and 2003-04. The district administration has planned to construct 400 toilets in government high and higher secondary schools during the current financial year, and 600 toilets in the next two years.
