BANGALORE,
JUNE 7.
Seeded players scored easy wins in the opening round of the State Open chess championship, which began at the UAS Campus in Hebbal here on Monday. Defending champion Arvind Shashtry beat Naveen Chandra, while second seed Vijendrat (Mysore) defeated Erranna Hanji.
The results (first round): Arvind Shastry bt Naveen Chandra; S. Anand lost to Tej Kumar; Erranna Hanji lost to Vijendra; Srriam Saraja bt S.N. Mohammed; Aniket Pavashe bt K. Thomas; G. Siddaih lost to M. Suraj; Ramachandran bt D. Nitish; Raghuraman bt Raghunandan; Pawan Kumar lost to Arjun Sarja; Phaneendra bt L.N. Vivek.
