CHENNAI June 7. The sky will be partly cloudy with possibility of shower or thundershower in some areas on Tuesday. On Monday, Nungambakkam registered a maximum of 37.2 and minimum of 27.3 degrees Celsius, while Meenambakkam recorded a maximum of 36.5 and minimum of 27 degrees Celsius. The humidity level was 74 per cent. Meenambakkam recorded 0.1 mm rainfall

Power cut

Power supply will be suspended on Wednesday between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. in parts of Korukkupet due to maintenance work.

GPF statements

The General Provident Fund Annual Account statements of State Government employees in Chennai-based offices, Chengalpet and Tiruvallur treasuries will be distributed at the Office of the Accountant General, Teynampet, between June 9 and 11.

Venus viewing

The Birla Planetarium has made arrangements for the public to witness the transit of Venus across the path of the Sun on Tuesday. This will be visible from 10.45 a.m. to 4.51 p.m. and can also be viewed from Ramanujan Computing Centre, Anna University.

Meeting

Officials of Sri Lanka Telecom met BSNL officials in connection with an agreement signed between the two nations for introduction of STD services between Chennai and Colombo through the newly commissioned microwave link between the two cities.

Free books

Engineering students can apply for free engineering books from the Book Bank of Lions Club of Mylapore Charitable Trust. Those who obtained books in the previous years can apply for this academic year by returning old books. Fresh students too can apply before June 30. (Ph: 55291380).

Jewels stolen

Fifty sovereigns of gold jewellery were stolen from a house at Sriram Nagar, Teynampet on Sunday night. Police said burglars gained entry into the residence of Bhandari, an employee in a private firm, after unlocking the door latch through the window.
