BANGALORE, JUNE 7. The six referral hospitals of the Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BMP) will soon be on par with some of the reputed corporate hospitals. These hospitals have now procured sophisticated medical equipment at a cost of Rs. 3.5 crore under the Japan Debt Grant Assistance. The Mayor, P.R. Ramesh, announced this on Monday during his visit to the BMP Dasappa Maternity Home. mmHe inspected the new equipment. The Project officer for Japan Debt Grant assistance, Dr. Nagaratna, explained to the Mayor that the equipment would be despatched to all the six BMP referral hospitals soon. Meanwhile, the Mayor directed the Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BMP) officials to construct parapet walls along open storm water drains wherever required. Mr. Ramesh inspected Lingarajpuram (ward no. 87) and Kachakaranahalli (ward no. 89) on Monday and noticed that a storm water drain in Lingarajpuram had a parapet wall only on one side. He asked the jurisdictional Chief Engineer to ensure that all such "dangerous" drains had protecting walls to prevent any accidents. The residents of the Jalavayuvihar housing complex presented a memorandum to the Mayor seeking regular garbage disposal and proper illumination in the area. The Mayor asked the Deputy Commissioner (East) to ensure that the residents of all the 1,140 houses in the complex had no complaints in future. The residents of Lingarajpuram complained about the ITC road being dug up in the area by the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB). The Mayor inspected the road and expressed dissatisfaction over the board's `shoddy work'. He asked the BMP engineers to talk to the BWSSB officials and get the trenches closed. He inspected Ramaswamy Palya's quarry and tank-bed and Lingarajpuram tank-bed areas. As the Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) had recently transferred the area to the BMP, measures would be initiated to improve the air quality there, he said.
