This Day That Age
King Tribhuvan of Nepal said in Kathmandu on June 7 that the foreign policy of Nepal sought to bring the country abreast of the progressive nations of the world without entering into any particular power group and vigilantly maintaining Nepal's sovereignty. The King was addressing the Advisory Assembly outlining the Government's policies and programmes. His speech was read out by the Crown Prince, Prince Mahendra, as the King was not well. Referring to Indo-Nepalese relations, he said the assistance that Nepal was receiving from India was larger than that from other countries owing to "our common geographical, natural and cultural heritage, and our policies and ideals. It is also beyond controversy. As good next-door neighbours we should share our joys and sorrows, which is not only natural but beneficial to both."
