This Day That Age
Russia rejected a French proposal that an International Commission to supervise an Indo-China armistice be composed entirely of the five Colombo Powers and insisted that at least one Communist nation must be a member, a Conference source said in Geneva on June 7. India, Pakistan, Burma, Ceylon and Indonesia are the Colombo Powers. The proposal to invite the Colombo nations was put to Mr. Vyacheslav Molotov by his French opposite number, M. Georges Bidault, at a 50-minute private meeting. Sources said Mr. Molotov repeated his insistence that Communist nations could be neutral - a claim rejected by the West in last week's talks. But Mr. Molotov indicated that he would consider the nomination of three Colombo nations plus one Communist and one anti-communist power.
