CHENNAI, JUNE 8. A galaxy of athletes endeavouring to reconfirm, or fighting for a berth in the Indian contingent for the Olympic Games in Athens will be seen in action in the third circuit meet at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium on June 16. According to a press release from the Tamil Nadu Athletic Association as many as 150 competitors are expected to figure in the one-day meet, which will feature 11 events for men and eight for women. "We expect very good results here," remarked the President of TNAA, Walter I. Dawaram, while outlining the salient points of the meet. Mr. Dawaram based his optimism on the fast track at the J.N. Stadium, which has witnessed many a national mark surface in major competitions. A handful of the competitors will go all out to attain the Olympic qualifying mark here. The unlucky ones have another chance when the city plays host to the inter-State meet next month. The list of stars for the meet includes, K.M. Beenamol, Neelam J. Singh, Saraswathi Saha, Amrit Pal Singh, Harwant Kaur, Seema Antil, Rajinder Kaur, Sunitha Rani, Maduri Singh, K.N. Priya, J.J. Shoba, Sakthi Singh, Bahadur Singh, K.M. Binu, Ramachandran, Manoj Lal and Anil Kumar. The winner of each event will get Rs. 10,000, while those finishing second and third would get Rs. 7,000 and Rs. 3,000 respectively. The events: Men: 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, long jump, triple jump, shot put, javelin, hammer, 4 x 100 relay, 4 x 400 relay. Women: 200m, 400m, 800m, 100m hurdles, long jump, high jump, discus and 4 x 400 relay.
