KARWAR, JUNE 8. Konkan Railway Corporation Ltd. (KRCL) has introduced more safety measures along its route. A press release issued here said the measures included a system to alert the train crew about natural calamities. The measures had been taken up at a cost of Rs. 60 crore. The works included levelling slopes to avoid landslips and installation of inclinometers developed by KRCL and anti-collision devices. KRCL had installed inclinometers at 179 points along the route. It proposed to install 19,000 inclinometers along the route. The release said KRCL had tied up with Central Mining Research Institute, Dhanabad, for technical guidance on controlled blasting of rocks. Since the Konkan region was prone to tremors, KRCL had built a seismic station at Ratnagiri to get seismic data and process it with the help of Baba Atomic Research Centre, Mumbai.
