Senior Congress leaders may be drafted for party work: More

By Our Special Correspondent

DHARWAD, JUNE 8. S.R. More, Minister, said on Monday that the senior Congress leaders who had not been included in the Ministry were likely to be drafted for party work.

Addressing presspersons here, he said those who had aspired for the post of Chief Minister could be considered for rejuvenating the Congress in the State. However, he declined to name anybody.

Mr. More denied that there had been discord in the party over representation in the Ministry.

The party High Command would not tolerate dissidence, he said.

He described the senior Congress leader and former Minister, H.K. Patil, who could not find a place in the Ministry, as his "best friend" and there were no differences of opinion between him and Mr. Patil.

He expressed confidence that the coalition Government would last the full term. It was an era of coalition governments and a similar Government was in place at the Centre.

The State Government was committed to removing regional imbalances and implementation of the D.M. Nanjundappa Committee report. Depending on the availability of funds, the recommendations made in the report would be implemented in a phased manner, Mr. More said.

Mr. More said North Karnataka needed two circuit Benches of the Karnataka High Court to be established in the Bombay Karnataka region and the Hyderabad Karnataka region.

He said the Government should earmark Rs. 50 crore for the purpose. He expressed the hope that the Chief Justice of the High Court would approve a proposal this regard.

He said that the Government would not hesitate to order an inquiry by Corps of Detectives (CoD) if specific instances of misuse of foodgrains released under the food-for-work programme to Dharwad district were found.

The Government would soon take a decision on payment of compensation to farmers under the crop insurance scheme, he added.
