Washington: The Department of Homeland Security has designated the funeral of the former President, Ronald Reagan, as a "special security event" which means that the secret service will oversee the preparations. "We are confident of providing a safe and secure environment," said a spokeswoman of the service. The event is on the same security scale as that of the Summit of the Group of Eight set to get under way in Georgia on Tuesday. The other high-profile security considerations being given are to the Democratic and Republican national conventions scheduled for this summer in Boston and New York. Law-enforcement agencies at different levels have already been warned by the Justice Department and the FBI that the Al-Qaeda is planning to attack the U.S. in the next several months.
