Letters to the Editor
Sir, Heard and read the President, A.P.J. Abdul Kalam's Address to Parliament. One cannot but sympathise with this figurehead of Indian democracy. He has to read out what is given to him by the new government. We are reminded of our days in servitude when we put up a spirited defence with statistics, etc. for a shoddy annual performance. The big boss heard it all patiently and came up with a one-liner we cherish to this day: "One leg in the fire and one leg in the ice-box, and you feel quite comfortable?" That is today's position insofar as the "Grand Secular Alliance" is concerned.
K. Vijayan,
Sir, This refers to the editorial, `Reiteration, but some dilution' (Juen 8). It has always been the norm of any political party after an electoral victory, to thin down on the pre-electoral promises. Election manifestos are like home loan advertisements: they always speak only the half-truth.
R.P. Durai Jasper,
