Letters to the Editor
Sir, Strangely enough, in almost all the articles on junk food we see pictures of double-decker hamburgers and French-fries. Why this Western orientation is hard to understand, when we have equally comparable `desi' counterparts: fat-dripping channa baturas, bajjis, butter chicken and syrup-drenched jilebis and jamuns, to name a few? Should we not warn our people of the consequences of bad eating habits with appropriate indigenous illustrations? Of course, the underlying causes of food-related diseases fall under a universal chain of events big technology, big harvests, big fat dinners and, last but not the least, big flat TV screens.
Subbiah Venkataraman,
