TI launches turbo drive cycles

By Our Special Correspondent

CHENNAI, JUNE 8. TI Cycles, a unit of Tube Investments of the Murugappa group, has launched a range of eight mountain terrain bikes (MTB) with turbo drive. These bikes will be available in the price range of Rs. 2000-2800. These will cost Rs. 80-100 more per bike vis-a-vis similar ones in the existing range and are positioned to woo children in the age group of 9-15 years who are `looking to be ahead of their peers always'.

Addressing a press conference here today, G. Hari, President of TI Cycles, said these MTBs were developed in-house and symbolised power and passion. He said the new range of bikes could fetch an incremental speed of 30-35 per cent for the same power.

TI Cylces, he said, was a leader in the MTB segment with a market share of over 50 per cent. With the introduction of the new range, he hoped to improve the market share by another 15-20 per cent in this category. TI Cycles sold eight lakh MTBs last year. It sold a total of 30 lakh cycles last year.
