GUWAHATI, JUNE 8. Altogether 49.79 per cent candidates have come out successful in the High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC) examination conducted by the Board of Secondary Education, Assam (SEBA), the results of which were declared today. Debanga Raj Neog of the Cotton Collegiate Government Higher Secondary School stood first among 67 rank holders securing the first 20 positions. Of the 1,84,771 candidates who had appeared for the examination, 92,011 came out successful. Neog's performance has come as a big boost for government-run schools as the State Government has decided to link financial assistance for these schools to their performance in the HSLC examination. As many as 11,843 candidates secured the first division and 21,359, the second division, while 58,809 candidates were placed in the third division. However, the overall pass percentage increased from last year's 44.11.
