ALAPPUZHA, JUNE 8. The Mavelikara District Education Officer (DEO), Velayudhan, has been suspended because of his activities against the IT@Schools Project of the State Government being implemented through Kudumbashree units, according to an official release. The project had been implemented in eight schools at Mavelikara last year, said the release. As a part of the project, computer classes were being organised for students in the high school classes. The teachers were educated members of the economically-weaker families, who were members of Kudumbashree units, said the release. "The Kudumbashree District Mission had received complaints that the Mavelikara DEO had instructed the schools under him not to encourage the project during the current academic year," said the official release. There were complaints that he had asked the heads of the schools to ask the regular teachers working there to take computer classes for the children, said the release. The DEO was also reported to have humiliated the Kudumbashree District Officer who went to the DEO office to discuss the issue, said the release. The mission complained to the Government about the incident and the DEO was suspended after investigations, the release said.
