`Abused' Dalit facing death threat

By Our Staff Reporter

TIRUNELVELI, JUNE 8. A Dalit, who was reportedly abused by a group of caste Hindus three years ago, is now facing a death threat from them as they are anxious that the victim's deposition in the court might go against them.

M. Murugan of Sivalaarkulam has filed a complaint in the Palayamkottai police station and submitted petitions to the Superintendent of Police and the Second Additional Sessions judge.

He said that a group of caste Hindus of his village harassed him and poured cow dung solution on him on August 30, 2001. When he came to the court on June 7 last for deposition in the case being tried in the Second Additional Sessions Court here, the accused allegedly threatened Mr. Murugan and other two witnesses — Gowsalya and Parameswari — of dire consequences.
