Karunakar Reddy finds no place on TTD Trust Board

By Our Special Correspondent

TIRUPATI, JUNE 8. The Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy Government has reconstituted the Trust Board of the Tirumala-Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD).

The Government which last night cleared the name of only the chairperson of the board -- T. Subbarami Reddy -- on Tuesday announced other names on the 11-member non-official body.

The Commissioner, Endowments and Executive Officer, TTD, would be two ex-officio members of the board with the latter being its Member-Secretary as well.

Rather intriguingly, the name of B.Karunakar Reddy, APCC Secretary and a close aide of the Chief Minister, was missing in the official list faxed to the TTD by the CM's Office in the evening. His appointment as chief of the Tirupati Urban Development Authority, however, stands confirmed.

As per the TTD Act, in the absence of a full-fledged board, its duties are to be discharged by a three-member body of bureaucrats -- Specified Authority comprising the Principal Secretary (Revenue-Endowments), Endowments Commissioner and the TTD's Executive Officer who will be member-secretary of the panel. It was barely four days ago that the Specified Authority was sworn in and administered the oath of office and secrecy at a special ceremony. The entire exercise could have been avoided had the Government sounded the TTD about the process under way to put in place a fresh body.

`Kuthuhalamma unhyappy'

Meanwhile, Ms. G. Kuthuhalamma, who was named member of the TTD board, was said to be unhappy over the nomination. Sources close to the senior legislator from the district indicated that her nomination to the board as a `mere member' was highly unfair and far below her cadre and stature given the fact that she was a Cabinet Minister in the previous Congress government. Sources said that she might reject the nomination.
