TIRUPATI, JUNE 8. More than 12,000 persons on Tuesday witnessed the astronomical spectacle of the Venus transiting the Sun -- an event said to be happening after 121 years. People gathered at half a dozen places in Tirupati where special arrangements were made for watching event through safe means between 11 AM and 5 PM. The facility was provided under the joint aegis of the A.P. Council of Science and Technology (APCOST), Vigyan Prasar and the Jana Vignana Vedika (Tirupati chapter). The general secretary of the Vedika, V.Ramachandra, said the organisers created facility for the viewing of the feat from vantage points in the town such as SV University, TTD administrative building, RTC bus station, AIR circle, Vivekananda circle and Padmavathi Guest House. NELLORE: Thanks to the newly-arranged telescope at the Department of Physics, V.R. College, Nellore, hundreds of people viewed the rare astronomical event of the transit of Venus across the disc of Sun on Tuesday. They saw the planet of Venus crawling across the Sun's disc, as focused on a screen. The college is the only one in the affiliated sector of S.V. University area to have telescope facility. Among those who witnessed the rare event was the secretary and corrrespondent of the college, Anam Vivekananda Reddy, who is also the Nellore MLA. The Jana Vignana Vedika also made arrangements at various places of the town, making available solar filters for proper viewing of the event.
