KOLLAM, JUNE 8. A meeting of the district panchayat was disrupted following differences of opinion between the members of the ruling Left Democratic Front and the United Democratic Front today. The Opposition UDF members alleged that the president, Sasikala Sivasankar, completed the entire proceedings within five minutes and left in a huff. The UDF member, S. Anil Kumar, who heads the education standing committee, said that the president did not provide the minutes of the meeting held on June 2 and tampered with the attendance to show that the meeting was not held. The minutes of the finance and development standing committees were passed today in haste ignoring the protest of the UDF members, he said. When contacted, Ms. Sivasankar denied the charges and said that the meeting was held as per the rules and that she had not tampered with the attendance register. Ms. Sivasankar said that she has issued a legal notice to Mr. Anil Kumar and another UDF member, Kottamom Vinod, seeking Rs.20 lakh as damages for making "false" charges against her.
