PATHANAMTHITTA, JUNE 8. The State committee of the Save Education Forum (SEF) has called upon the Government to withdraw the order permitting the MLAs to allot money from their Special Development Fund to various private agencies including the unaided schools in their constituency. In a joint statement issued here today, the SEF president, P.A.Vasudevan, and general secretary, P. Prasad, have alleged that the Government Order (GO) of May 27 was aimed at misusing the public exchequer for the benefit of certain vested interests. The SEF leaders alleged that the "dual" policy of the Government, which has been trying to withdraw from the service sector in the name of paucity of funds, has been exposed with the GO, which facilitates allotment of public money to private agencies. Mr. Prasad has alleged that the move to "misuse" public money for the development of unaided institutions could never be justified at a time when a majority of the Government schools in the State lacked basic infrastructure facilities. Instead of learning lessons from the outcome of the Lok Sabha elections, the Antony Government was trying to take vengeance against the poor for the election debacle of the United Democratic Front owing to its anti-people policies by bringing out such GOs, the SEF leaders alleged.
