PATHANAMTHITTA, JUNE 8. Four police personnel, including a sub-inspector, have sustained minor injuries when the Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI (M) march to the police station at Kodumon near here turned violent this afternoon. The CPI(M) workers had staged the march to the police station at around 5.30 pm today, in protest against the alleged police assault on the Kodumon panchayat president, A.N. Salim, of the CPI(M), on Monday. The march turned violent when it approached the police station and the policemen were injured when the marchers allegedly hurled stones at them. The CPI(M) also observed a day-long hartal in Kodumon today, protesting against the police assault on the panchayat chief. It was alleged that the panchayat chief was assaulted when he, along with a group of party workers, tried to prevent the setting up of a toddy shop at Edathita-Manjippuzha within the panchayat limits on Monday. The Pandalam SI, George Koshy and the ASI, Soman, were among those who were injured in the stone-throwing incident and the police have registered a case in this connection.
