CPI calls for CRA meeting
By Our Staff Reporter
CHENNAI,
JUNE 8.
The Communist Party of India (CPI) has demanded convening of the Cauvery River Authority to release water for kuruvai cultivation in the delta region.
In a press release, issued at the end of a two-day executive committee meeting here today, the State Secretary, R. Nallakannu, urged the Centre and the Karnataka Governments to arrive at a solution immediately. The meet also welcomed the All-India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam's decision to join the all-party delegation, which met the Prime Minister today. Another resolution condemned the attack on the house of a party functionary at Rameswaram. When C.R. Senthil, the district committee member, was not at home, an unidentified gang torched a moped and two boats, after ransacking the house.
Alleging that the Vishwa Hindu Parishad cadres perpetrated the vandalism, the party wanted the Government to take stern action against the culprits.
