Bail for Maudhani rejected
By Our Staff Reporter
CHENNAI,
JUNE 8.
The Madras High Court today dismissed a bail application by Abdul Nazir Maudhani, a main accused in the Coimbatore serial bomb blasts case and chairman of the People's Democratic Party in Kerala. He has been in jail since March 1998.
Justice T.V. Masilamani, however, directed the police and jail authorities to give the accused "necessary and adequate medical treatment."
Earlier, counsel AR.L. Sundaresan submitted that the prison authorities had failed to comply with the High Court orders on an earlier writ petition by Mr. Maudhani on replacement of his artificial limbs in Chennai. Counsel also pointed out that the jail doctor himself had filed two reports recommending treatment for Mr. Maudhani in a private superspeciality hospital.
