DMK, AIADMK must stop trading charges, says Veeramani

By Our Staff Reporter

THANJAVUR, JUNE 8. The Dravidar Kazhagam general secretary¸ K.Veeramani, today said the decision of Tamil Nadu MPs, cutting across party lines, to meet the Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh, to discuss the Cauvery issue was a "welcome move" and "a new approach."

He told presspersons here that the Dravidar Munnetra Kazhagam writing to the Chief Minister, Jayalalithaa, on the possibility of the AIADMK joining the delegation and her response asking her party's Rajya Sabha MPs to join the delegation was a welcome move. But the two parties should stop trading charges against each other and take up with the Centre development issues.

Referring to Ms.Jayalalithaa's statement that it was the responsibility of Mr. Karunanidhi and the Congress president, Sonia Gandhi, to secure Cauvery water, Mr. Veeramani said she should have avoided making such statements after asking her MPs to join the delegation.

"This is in bad taste," Mr. Veeramani said. The Karnataka government and the Centre might take advantage of the impression that there were differences among Tamil Nadu parties.Mr. Veeramani appreciated Mr. Karunanidhi for reserving his comments on Ms. Jayalalithaa's statement.
