Free hostels for BC, MBC students

NAGAPATTINAM, JUNE 8. Free hostel accommodation and other facilities will be provided to school and college students belonging to the backward communities (BC) and most backward communities (MBC) in 26 hostels in the district, the Collector, M. Veera Shanmugha Moni, said here today.

He said school students (from standard IV to XII) and undergraduate, postgraduate and polytechnic students whose family income was below Rs. 50,000 per annum were eligible to obtain facilities such as free accommodation, food and school uniforms.

Applications for both boys and girls were being supplied free of cost at the hostels and the Collectorate.

The date of submission of the filled in applications is July 30 for school students and July 31 for college students.

The Collector said 26 BC and MBC hostels are functioning at Manakkudi, Vedaranyam, Kali, Keezhvelur, Thagattur, Kariyapattinam, Ayakaranpulam, Nangur, Sembanarkovil, Thirukkuvalai, Akkur, Sirkazhi, Velankanni, Nagapattinam, Mayiladuturai, Poompuhar, Vaitheeswarankovil, Tharangampadi, Sembodai, Kuthalam and Thirumullaivasal.
