Ravikanth, Tanmay revive Central Zone

By Our Sports Reporter

BANGALORE, JUNE 8. Ravikanth Shukla (90) and Tanmay Srivastav (85) helped Central Zone post 305 for seven against Combined Zone in the Col. Hemu Adhikari Memorial inter-Academy cricket tournament at the Chinnaswamy Stadium here on Tuesday.

The duo's 175-run third-wicket partnership revived Central Zone after openers Shan-E-Alam and Ali Murtaza succumbed early leaving the score at four for two in two overs. Ravikanth (90, 157b, 7x4, 4x6) and Tanmay Srivastav (85, 183b, 13x4) shored up the innings until their dismissals stemmed the flow of runs. Combined Zone's off-spinner Mohnish Parmar (three for 76) struck mid-innings and it was left to Ashwini Mandhani and Avinash Yadav to salvage the innings before close of play.

In another match at the WAP Ground, East Zone scored 44 for no loss after bundling out South Zone for 185 in 77.2 overs. South Zone opted to bat but struggled all through owing to two run-outs and left-arm spinner S.K. Nadim's (four for 51) incisive spells. South Zone found runs through tail-enders Naresh (44) and Ryan Ninan (48).

Meanwhile, North Zone scored 190, riding on the efforts of Sunny Singh (55) and Mandeep Singh (48 n.o.) against West Zone at the IAF Ground. At close, West had scored 70 for no loss with opener Salim Pathan remaining unbeaten on 58.

The scores:

Central Zone 305 for seven in 98 overs (Ravikanth Shukla 90, Tanmay Srivastav 85, Ashwini Mandhani 32 batting, Mohnish Parmar three for 76) vs Combined Zone.

North Zone 190 in 63.4 overs (Sunny Singh 55, Mandeep Singh 48 n.o., Rohit Jadhav three for 29) vs West Zone 70 for one in 26 overs (Salim Pathan 58 batting).
