Strong field for National `B' championship

VIJAYAWADA, JUNE 8. Grandmaster R.B .Ramesh and WGMs Subbaraman Vijayalakshmi, S. Meenakshi and Aarthie Ramaswamy are among the big names who have confirmed participation in the National `B' chess championship to be organised by Champions Chess Academy and AP Chess Association from June 16 to 28, according to V.R. Bobba, secretary of APCA.

Mr. Bobba said 25 International Masters, including P. Konguvel, D.V. Prasad, Lanka Ravi, Vishal Sareen, S. Satyapragyan, Rahul Shetty, V. Saravanan, S. Kidambi and G.B. Prakash, have also confirmed entry.

The event is being organised to commemorate the silver jubilee celebrations of the VGTM-Urban Development Authority of Vijayawada.

The Andhra challenge will be spearheaded by WGM Dronavalli Harika, former Asian rapid champion Lanka Ravi and seasoned campaigner P.D.S. Girinath.

The APCA secretary also said during the National `B' championship, a photo exhibition covering various chess tournaments over the last 15 years and a simultaneous display by film actress Laya would be organised. A live commentary of the World championship for men to be held in Libya during the same time will also be available.
