MYSORE, JUNE 8. The Federation of Pro-Kannada Organisations here has threatened to deface signboards that do not give prominence to Kannada. The movement to deface the boards will commence on June 27. In a press release issued here, the federation has said that it had raised awareness about using Kannada on signboards last year. While some business establishments had responded to the appeals made by the pro-Kannada organisations, some had not complied with the requests, the federation said and added that it had been forced to think about defacing the boards owing to the laxity of the organisations. The release also said that the three-month deadline issued by the Mayor had expired. The release said that nearly 75 per cent of the billboards and signboards that give prominence to English would be defaced during the first phase of the campaign. Some business establishments had violated the Government Order directing them to provide prominence to Kannada on signboards, the release said. The federation also demanded that the corporation should cancel trade licences of those business establishments that did not conform to the order.
