KHAMMAM, JUNE 8. A private junior college, which had announced a tie-up with a corporate college for the current academic year, came under the attack by students in Kothagudem town today. The demonstrators damaged two buses and a car belonging to the institution. Eight students were arrested in connection with the incident, and the police had to resort to lathicharge to disperse the crowd. The activists complained that the corporate college had entered into an agreement with the local one without permission. Their protest turned violent when some students ransacked the office and damaged computers. A car belonging to the chairman of the college, M. V. Chowdhury, was attacked, and the windowpanes of the college buses smashed. The police, who had initially tried to pacify the students, arrested D. Madhu, Devi, K. Narasimha Rao, Kishore, Gandhi and Srinu, all belonging to the student organization that led the protest.
