KANCHEEPURAM, JUNE 8. The district administration will extend subsidy-cum-loan assistance to nearly 4,000 of the 1,1700 women self-help groups (SHGs) in Kancheepuram, the Collector, R. Venkatesan, said. Addressing a mass contact programme at Maraimalai Nagar today, he said SHGs would not have to scout for recommendations to avail the loans, since a bigger balance in savings accounts will automatically qualify them for grading, which will enable them get the amount. He urged the SHG members to utilise the opportunity by attending the grading process meeting at banks where they have their saving accounts. By extending this assistance, the district administration expects to bring a change in the socio-economic status of around 60,000 - 80,000 women in district. The Handlooms Minister, V. Somasundaram said Rs.20 crore had been allotted for taking up works under the Sampoorna Grameena Rozgar Yojana (SGRY) in the district.
