CHENNAI, JUNE 8. The Chennai Corporation today said it would issue birth certificates for children up to the age of nine years for free, with the continuation of a Central Government scheme launched last November. The scheme was inaugurated on November 14 last to ensure that all children were given birth certificates. Over 50,000 certificates were issued till March this year. The Health department officials said the Central Government had extended the scheme. According to a press note issued by the civic agency today, the certificates will be issued at the 10 zonal offices. Parents can fill up the applications available at the zonal offices and get the certificates.
