Protest against digging of road

By Our Staff Reporter

KOCHI, JUNE 8. The Cochin Citizen's Forum has protested against the `indiscriminate' digging of the Cherupushpam Lane at Elamkulam.

In a memorandum submitted to the Mayor, C. M. Dinesh Mani, the forum president, Mathew Joseph Moozhayil, said a private telephone company, which had been given permission to dig the road and some others for cable laying were digging the road violating the conditions laid down by the Kochi Corporation.

Indiscriminate digging of narrow roads hampers smooth flow of traffic and causes water logging. Many houses in the area are located below the road level and water from the drains was entering the houses because of the digging work.

The work was going on in violation of the undertaking given before the Corporation on April 14, that no hindrance would be caused to traffic or pedestrians, Mr. Moozhayil said.

It had been specifically mentioned that digging will be done only at night and that work would be completed by mid-May.
