The inauguration was attended by sarod maestro Amjad Ali Khan; management guru Swami Sukhabodananda; and Venu Srinivasan of TVS. This was followed by a contemporary dance programme.

Rama Shankar, the brain behind the effort, said there would be nine months of weekly television programmes on "Indians with a difference, who have made a difference to India"; village-transformation projects involving young volunteers from around the world; and ground-level events such as an India-Pakistan cricket match.

The awards function which followed was marked by cricketers including Anil Kumble, Venkatesh Prasad, Ajit Agarkar, Rahul Dravid, Zaheer Khan, Irfan Pathan and Balaji presenting the "scrolls of honour'. The award winners were: Ustad Amjad Ali Khan; India's cultural ambassador in Spain Rajiv Sethi; Mr. Venu Srinivasan; para-olympics champion Malathi Holla; Kannada movie star Ramesh Arvind; head of the St. Xavier's Group of Schools Chris Pinto; Meera Bhupathi, tennis star Mahesh Bhupathi's mother who is active in social service organisations; Sunithi Solomon who first discovered that HIV/AIDS had spread to India; theatre person Arundhati Nag; and B.N.
