HYDERABAD, JUNE 8 . The Standing Committee of the Municipal Corporation of Hyderabad has cleared the Sanitation Department's proposal for the purchase of three modern skid steer loaders for the handling of garbage, removal of debris and simultaneous sweeping of roads. The equipment is expected to cost Rs. 48 lakhs. The Chairperson of the committee, Yasmin Sultana, said the loaders were cleared after members witnessed the functioning of the machines. She said that though the committee had also wished to identify an agency that could supply the machines, officials had prevailed upon her for speedy approval as the Corporation was in urgent need of such machines. The Corporation already has one such loader, which can get into and clean up even small lanes. Each machine costs Rs. 16 lakhs. However, Ms. Sultana has directed officials to make sure they are purchased within the next three months.
