Agri-expo to end tomorrow

VIJAYAWADA, JUNE 8. The curtains on the two-month long All India Industrial and Agricultural Exhibition taking place at the Swaraj Maidan Grounds will come down on June 10.

An estimated eight lakh people turned up for the 60-day carnival which showcased 429 stalls from across the country, according to the Krishna Industrial and Agricultural Exhibition Society. The exhibition had been inaugurated on April 10.

The Minister for Municipal Administration, Koneru Ranga Rao, is expected be the Chief Guest for the valedictory function to be held here on Wednesday. The District Collector, K. Prabhakar Reddy, the Joint Collector, D. Samapth Kumar, noted agricultural scientist, L. Narayan Reddy from Karnataka, and the legislators Mandali Buddha Prasad, Devineni Rajasekhar, Vangaveethi Radhakrishna and Shaik Nasar Valli are expected to attend the function.

Addressing a press conference here on Tuesday, the Secretary of the society, M. Narayan Prasad, the Joint Secretary, G. V. Rama Rao and the Treasurer Y. Veeraiah, said the exhibition would be revived in August in view of the ensuing Krishna pushkarams. They pointed out that the society had organised exhibitions to coincide with the two earlier pushkarams, held once in every 12 years.

Mr. Prasad said special programmes were conducted to explain innovative methods of using seed and fertilisers for effective crop yields to farmers. He said several thousands of people had watched the daily cultural and sports events organised by the society during the event.

The society's sports committee Convenor, M. Prasad Babu, its press and publicity Convenor, N. Vinay Kumar, and member Y. Chandu were present.
