MADIKERI, JUNE 9. The monsoon has become active throughout the district since Tuesday, triggering hopes of a good harvest among farmers in the district. The entire district experienced steady drizzle to moderate rainfall. The water level in the Cauvery is rising gradually as Bhagamandala, Talacauvery, Napoklu, Virajpet, Murnad, Madikeri, Kushalnagar areas received good rainfall since Tuesday night. A few farmers have begun sowing crops in Virajpet taluk. The storage level in the Harangi Reservoir stood at 2,801.84 ft on Wednesday as against the maximum level of 2,859 ft. The rainfall received (in mm) in the other taluks is as follows: Madikeri 19, Somwarpet 9.48 and Virajpet 42.6. While Madikeri taluk has received 434.4 mm rainfall since January, Virajpet taluk has received 626.6 mm rainfall, and Somwarpet 387.2 mm, which is more than the rainfall received in the corresponding period last year.
