Letters to the Editor
Sir, This refers to the decision of the Railway Minister, Laloo Prasad Yadav, to introduce kulhads (earthen cups) in the place of plastic and paper cups, mathakola (buttermilk) in the place of Colas and now khadi furnishings on trains. Kulhad, matha or khadi may sound politically correct but hasty moves should not endanger quality and safety.
H.S. Goyal,
Sir, There is a lot of excitement over the reintroduction of earthen teacups, discarded decades ago by the Railways. Earthen ware contains dust, ash and other particles as it is not cleaned after being taken out of kilns. Also, earthen pots absorb tea as they are porous.
K.M. Balagopalan,
