THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, JUNE 9 . All the districts in the State except Wayanad have received excess rainfall since the onset of the South West monsoon on May 18, even as the monsoon is in its second spell. According to the Met authorities here, Wayanad district too has received excess rainfall if the total rainfall received from January 1 is taken into consideration. This is because Wayanad received good pre-monsoon showers in May. From June 3 till date, the State received 69 mm rainfall in excess of the average of 250.9 mm received during the period. The percentage of excess rainfall received is as follows: Alappuzha: 30 per cent; Kannur: 183; Ernakulam: 65; Idukki: 83; Kasaragod: 95; Kollam: 19; Kottayam: 35; Kozhikode: 92; Malappuram: 93; Palakkad: 99; Pathanamthitta: 41; and Thrissur: 135. Wayanad district alone had a deficit of 43 per cent during the said period since Ambalavayal and Kuppadi stations in the district reported low precipitation. Thiruvananthapuram district had a deficit of 10 per cent, but in meteorological terms, a deviation of 19 per cent either way is considered normal. Besides, if the period from the onset date of May 18 is taken into question, the district too has received 15 per cent excess rainfall.
