CUDDAPAH, JUNE 9. The Chairman and Managing Director of AP Genco, J. Parthasarathi, has said that the works on the second phase of the Rayalaseema Thermal Power Plant would be completed as per schedule. Mr. Parthasarathi recently inspected the ongoing works in the second phase of the RTPP, along with the Genco's Director (Thermal), T. Sambasiva Rao, its Executive Director (Civil), Sanyasi Raju, and the Chief Engineer of RTPP, Purnachandra Rao. Speaking to presspersons later at the RTPP guest house at Kalamalla, he said work on the second phase had commenced on February 2 with an outlay of Rs. 1,600 crores. The first unit in the second phase would be completed by July 2005 and the second unit by October 2006. Out of the total outlay of Rs. 1,600 crores, the financial assistance from Power Finance Corporation, REC, Central Bank of India and Indian Overseas Bank was Rs. 1,225 crores, Mr. Parthasarathi said. He added that the Genco management would bear Rs. 100 crores on the project. He said BHEL and Larson & Turbo had been entrusted with the erection of equipment and the civil works. Nearly 1,300 tonnes of steel was sent to RTPP for the second phase works, and the Genco would issue orders for the chimney and cooling tower works in a week, he said. The RTPP would provide the water and power to BHEL and L & T, he said. The RTPP stood first in the country in the plant load factor during 2002-03 and 2003-04, and the completion of the second stage works would facilitate generation of 420 MW, he added. Our Hyderabad Special Correspondent adds The contract relating to the construction of foundations for the expansion project of RTPP has been awarded to Larson & Turbo and the Letter of Intent issued to Harji Engineering Works, Delhi, for fabrication and erection of structural steel for the powerhouse building. In a press note here today, the AP Genco said different works of the project were under progress. It added that negotiations with the Railways were being held for the construction of a railway siding.
