DGP promises more welfare measures

By Our Staff Reporter

WARANGAL, JUNE 9. The Police Department is contemplating providing free education to the children of its personnel and would soon come out with more welfare measures for policemen, said the DGP, S R Sukumara, here today.

Addressing the police personnel and their children after inaugurating the new building of the APSP English medium school at the APSP 4th Battalion premises at the Mamnoor Police Training College premises, the DGP said that as a majority of the policemen come from a poor socio-economic background, the department proposes to introduce more welfare measures to uplift their status and help their children do well in life.

The department, as part of strengthening the existing force, is currently recruiting 3,500 constables and 650 sub-inspectors. The DGP was on a visit to the police training camp for the first time and went round the camp inspecting the infrastructure available for the training of its personnel who would be recruited.

Mr. Sukumara expressed happiness over the law and order situation in the district and said the department succeeded in conducting the elections without any untoward incident. "The election was unexpectedly smooth despite being the district being a naxal stronghold,'' he said. Referring to the ongoing proposals for discussions with the naxalites, the DGP said the department would extend full support to the decisions being taken by the State Government. However, he refused to elaborate on the modalities, stating that it was up to the Government to decide.

The DGP earlier inaugurated a mineral water plant, drip irrigation project, utility block and motor transport shed at the training college premises.

The district Collector, N Siva Sankar, APSP IGP, K Durga Prasad, DIG N V Surendrababu, DIG Warangal T Krishna Prasad, SP Nalin Prabhat, APSP commandant A Sundar Kumar Das, college principal K Lakshmi Reddy and several other officials were present.
