20 injured as protesters clash with police
SAMASTIPUR,
JUNE 9.
At least 20 people were injured here in clashes with police, who fired several rounds in the air to disperse protesters demanding transfer of the District Superintendent of Police, Meghnath Ram.
The protest follows the killing of a prominent businessman on Monday. The demonstrators have been demanding the transfer of Mr. Ram.
Police said they opened fire after the group blocked rail and road traffic and began damaging railway property. Markets and shopping centres remained closed and processions were taken out from various areas.
Rail movement was affected on the Samastiput-Muzaffarpur and Samastipur-Darbhanga sections since early morning, police said adding that a section of the railway track in Thaneshwar Sthan was damaged by the protesters. UNI
