PALAKKAD, JUNE 9. The Chief Minister, A. K. Antony, has said that the Congress veteran, P. Balan, was a model not only to Congressmen but to all political workers. Addressing a condolence me- eting organised at the Town Ha- ll here today to mourn the death of the former MLA, Mr. Antony said that till his end, he led a simple life whose truthfulness and integrity could not be dou- bted. He said that Mr. Balan's life was full of sacrifice that influenced the Congress in Kerala. The KPCC president, P.P. Thankachan, said that P. Balan was one of the senior Congress leaders who was pained at the internal squabbles going on within the Congress party in the State. His death is a big loss to the democratic institutions of Kerala, he said. The meeting was presided over by the DCC president, V.S. Vijayaraghavan. After the cremation a condolence march was organised from the crematorium to the Town Hall, the venue of the meeting. The meeting was addressed by Ministers, K. Sankaranarayanan, K. Sudhakaran, M.M. Hassan, Nalakath Soopy, the UDF convener Oommen Chandy, the Janata Dal leader C.K. Nanu, the CPI(M) district secretary, P. Unni, the CPI district secretary V. Chamunni among others. See also Page 4
