Prison staffers protest against doctor's `negligence'

By Our Staff Reporter

CUDDAPAH, JUNE 9. Employees of the Cuddapah Central prison including several women staged a dharna at Cuddapah Government Hospital on Tuesday demanding suspension of a doctor alleging that his negligence led to the death of a head warder of the jail, Ali Baba (55), who had been injured in a road mishap.

The jail employees placed the body of the head warder before the casualty ward and claimed that hospital authorities had neglected treatment and also failed to inform the prison officials about the admission of the patient.

Ali Baba, a native of Rajahmundry was returning to his house at Ramanjaneyapuram nearby when he was hit by a bus leading to severe injuries on Monday night. He was brought to Cuddapah Government Hospital in the same bus and admitted to the casualty ward.

A doctor on night duty, Sivaprasad, was negligent in treating the accident victim, the protesting employees alleged. The doctor examined the injured official and left for his room although the patient was in a serious condition, they alleged. Other patients in the ward had informed the doctor several times that the official was seriously hurt, but he did not pay attention, they said.

Ali Baba died in the early hours of Tuesday, but the jail authorities were informed about his death only around noon.

The police intervened and pacified the protestors. The Government hospital Superintendent, V Kumara Swamy, promised to inquire into the allegations and initiate action if the doctor was found guilty.
