Plea to restore land `occupied' by landlords

By Our Staff Reporter

ANANTAPUR, JUNE 9. The TDP legislator of Penukonda, Paritala Ravindra, today urged the District Collector, Y.V. Anuradha, to do justice to the poor families of Chinnamogalayipalli village in Chennekothapalli mandal, where landlords affiliated to the Congress had allegedly occupied lands being cultivated by the poor a month back.

He also submitted a memorandum to the Collector. Speaking to newspersons later he stated that 10 acres of land was being cultivated by the five poor families since 1995 before the landlords occupied it. He claimed that the landlords had even run over a woman with a tractor when she resisted the occupation, seriously injuring her. The matter was taken to the notice of the police immediately but the police neglected it at the behest of Congress leaders, he alleged. Similarly, landlords affiliated to the Congress had also occupied 48.63 acres of Varadarajula Swamy temple lands being cultivated by 25 farmers after the latter had done preparatory farming after the recent rains, he said.

Stating that the People's War, APCLC and the Left parties had distributed land among the poor through land struggles he urged them to stop the injustice being done to the poor.
