CHANDIGARH, JUNE 9 . The Haryana Government has started implementing a Rs.1.79-crore project to beautify and resuscitate the source of river Saraswati, Adi-Badri, which is a famous religious place in Yamunanagar district, to give fillip to religious and historical tourism in the State. An official spokesman said that Adi-Badri is located in the foothills of the Shivalik mountain range and has been a place of religious belief since time immemorial. Many ancient temples such as Badri Narain Temple, Kedar Nath Temple and Mantra Devi Temple are situated in this area where lakhs of devotees come to pay their obeisance every year. He said that the Government was all set to provide maximum facilities to the devotees. A deep pond is being constructed to provide better bathing facilities to pilgrims. A small pucca `bawari' would also be constructed at the originating point of the sacred river Saraswati, in which the holy water would be stored to facilitate the devotees who wanted to carry it to their homes. Two small pucca dams would also be built on this spot to check the flow of water from the hilly terrains. Small structures of cement would also be constructed to check flow of water and soil erosion in this area. He said that besides Adi-Badri, Kurukshetra and Kapal Mochan were also being developed as pilgrim spots in the State. All out efforts were being made to bring these religious places on the international tourism map, he added. He further disclosed that a project to trace the course of the Saraswati was under way. This river is worshipped for its sanctity and is regarded as the mother of ancient civilisation and cradle of Vedic literature.
