HYDERABAD, JUNE 9. The CPI(M) State Committee today expressed anguish at the delay in the Government issuing orders on sanction of new agricultural loans and waiver of debts even after a discussion in the Assembly on farmers' suicide and announcement by the Chief Minister, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, towards this effect. B.V. Raghavulu, secretary of the party, in a statement, expressed fears that there would be further delay in the banks taking a decision on suggestions made by Dr. Reddy at the State-level bankers' meet. Instead of taking a decision, the banks had appointed a task force to look into various issues, he said. He expressed concern over the fall in the sanction of loans by various banks to the agricultural sector despite an increase in the State credit plan. The percentage of sanctions had declined from 41 to 26.67 during the last five years. In view of the prevailing situation, it was necessary to give a boost to the sector and sanction more loans to farmers. The CPI(M) leader called upon the Government to announce appropriate decisions so as to tide over the situation arising out of farmers' suicide. He reiterated the party's demand for stopping collection of farmers' loans, timely sanction of fresh loans to them after issuing identity cards. He wanted the Government to create a set-up to enrol farmers, identify those requiring loans and secure details of persons involved in private money lending in villages.
