CHENNAI, JUNE 9. The Communications and Information Technology Minister, Dayanidhi Maran, has sanctioned Rs. 51.99 lakhs for a "rural area development monitoring and information system" project, submitted by the Department of Future Studies, Madurai-Kamaraj University, for implementation in Pudukottai district. The project will be implemented in 10 taluks falling under the Pudukottai Parliamentary constituency over a period of two years. The District Collector will be the chairman of the project monitoring committee. Its implementation will result in providing quicker services to the people, fast decision-making by the district administration and easy public grievances redress as all relevant information relating to the landscape, weather, rail, road, public health, educational and other facilities available in each and every area could be accessed on computer by the administration in no time. This citizen-centric information can also be accessed by the public through the rural information kiosks, which are likely to be installed soon in the district, says a Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd release here.
