NEW DELHI, JUNE 9. The Andhra Pradesh Government today sought permission from the Centre to raise funds for its irrigation programmes and steps to revitalise cooperative credit. The Chief Minister, Y.S. Rajashekara Reddy, along with the Finance Minister, K. Rosaiah, met the Union Finance Minister, P. Chidambaram, and discussed the funds required for the pending projects and assistance, either in the form of special purpose vehicles through financial institutions or by issuing bonds. The Chief Minsiter said that to execute the Accelerated Irrigational Development Programme in the next five years, the State Government would need Rs. 46,000 crores, of which a tie-up for 26 projects costing Rs. 26,000 crores was made. The State Government was now seeking to raise the rest of the amount. The State Government had sought clearance for its proposal from NABARD/Reserve Bank of India (RBI) for revitalising cooperative credit. The proposal was in respect of nine cooperative banks in the districts of Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Warangal, Nalgonda and Karimnagar. The State had requested the Centre to revoke the restrictions placed by RBI in the case of Prudential and Vasavi Cooperative Banks, as they had recovered Rs. 155 crores and Rs. 64 crores respectively. The Chief Minister met the Civil Aviation Minister, Praful Patel, and urged him to take immediate steps for carrying out repairs in the Cuddapah airport, including extension of the runway and seek clearances for the new international airport in Hyderabad. Dr. Reddy and the Major Irrigation Minister, P. Lakshmaiah, met the Union Water Resources Minister, Priyaranjan Dasmunshi, to review the ongoing/pending projects in the Godavari basin. The Minister was told that the 10 projects, including four lift irrigation schemes of Pushkaram, Tadipudi, Alisagar and Guthpa, four medium projects of Peddavagu (Neelwai), Mathadivagu, Gollavagu and Ralivagu and two others Polavaram and Gundlakamma were pending clearance from the Central Water Commission.
